Figuring out what I want to write about here

When I decided to give this #Blaugust2019 thing a try, I went back and forth for a few days about where I wanted to blog. I have a blog on my main author site and, admittedly, it's rarely updated. So I considered just blogging there.
But, will people looking for information about my various books and series want to wade through posts about how I'm struggling to get the Pathfinder achievements in Warcraft? And will I feel more of a need to be "professional," whatever the hell that means, on my author site as opposed to rambling about whatever's on my mind?
Since I'm blogging here, I guess it's pretty clear what I've decided. I want to blog regularly. I think that's a good thing for me to do, to build up this discipline of posting on a daily, or almost-daily basis, whether I feel like it or not.  I used to be able to do this quite easily. Not so much anymore, and I'm hoping that by getting into a regular posting routine here, I'll eventually figure out what types of things I want to post on my author blog. as well as on my Patreon.
I'm great at coming up with ideas and plots for entire books. Regular blog posts? Not so much.
I really sort of want to use this blog like a journal. A place to keep track of things I'm doing and working on and enjoying. Maybe a place to, every once in a while, share something a little deeper. Current blogging wisdom states that you should try to focus on something that will be of help or interest to others. I don't think this blog will really fall into either category, unless, of course, people are for some reason interested in what makes a mom, wife, author, Warcraft playing, crocheting, gardening mess of a person happy.
Maybe I need to write something every once in a while that's just for me. And I'll put it out here, because that's what I do. I share words and hope that maybe, somewhere along the way, some of what I write touches someone else, even if it's a momentary nod and "yes, exactly" type of moment.
Sometimes, that's enough.
So this week's Blaugust theme is supposed to be about brainstorming topics. Taking it literally, I might end up sharing some of my favorite brainstorming techniques and maybe, possibly, come up with some type of plan other than "whatever's on my mind" for what I plan to write about here.
Either way, it should be fun!

  1. Hm. I am not sure the current blogging wisdom is to focus on something that will help or be of interest of someone. My impression was always that the current wisdom was to first write about something that interests you so it doesn't feel like a second job. Then worry about growing the number of readers. Or something like that.

Anyway, whatever you end up deciding to write in this blog I hope you enjoy it! :) And looking forward for those brainstorming techniques as that is something I am always struggling with. XD

    1. Maybe my problem is that I read too many blogs about blogging as an income source or something lol. Which I have no intention of doing here even if I could figure out a way to do it. Thanks so much for stopping by!
